Instant Composition: Ensemble Ratel // Fishes, Swords & Trombones

Voor dit avontuur heeft componist en contrabassist Hinse Mutter voorgesteld om met zijn trio, Ensemble Ratel, ter plekke nieuwe werken te componeren, met inbreng van het publiek als mede-makers. Je krijgt de kans om hier zelf invloed op uit te oefenen en zo deze nieuwe stukken mede vorm te geven.

De avond wordt afgesloten met een set instant composities en bestaand werk van het collectief Fishes, Swords & Trombones. Voor deze editie bestaat de bezetting uit Thomas Myrmel (tbn), Jonathan Nagel (Cb), en Omer Sigler (gtr).

Ensemble Ratel:
Hans Sampath Blok is een Nederlands-Noorse componist en musicus, geboren in Sri Lanka en geadopteerd in Nederland. Met zijn veelzijdige creativiteit haalt hij inspiratie uit de onderliggende emoties en behoeften die mensen verbinden of uit elkaar drijven. Hans bespeelt alle koperblaasinstrumenten en is voornamelijk actief binnen de oude muziek en vrije improvisatie.

Kees van der Heijdt is fluitist, docent, arrangeur, improvisator en schrijft ook eigen muziek. Geboren in een muzikaal gezin lag het voor de hand zelf ook muziek te gaan maken. Fanatisme sloeg snel toe en is nooit meer opgehouden. Kees heeft de vakopleiding klassiek fluit aan het Utrechts Conservatorium, in een master jazz-fluit aan ditzelfde instituut bij elkaar. Kees ontwikkelde zich hier als improvisator en onderzocht nieuwe mogelijkheden tot cross-overs, gericht op kleinere details. Kees is fluitist en piccoloïst in Het Zeeuws Orkest en te zien in veel losse muziekprojecten. Ook is Kees actief als muziekdocent, dwarsfluit, blokfluit, AMV en ensembles, van individuele lessen tot hele schoolklassen.

Hinse Mutter studeerde klassiek contrabas in Rotterdam en liep daarna stage als productieleider bij het Groot Omroepkoor. Hinse speelde bij o.a. de Marinierskapel, het Zeeuws Orkest en het Metropole Orkest. Als producent werkte hij o.a. bij het Nederlands Kamerkoor, LUDWIG en De Waalse Kerk. Als componist werden vele tientallen van zijn composities en arrangementen uitgevoerd door orkesten en ensembles. Zijn bladmuziek is uitgegeven bij Alry Publishing. Hinse speelt op een instrument dat hem ter beschikking is gesteld door Het Muziekinstrumentenfonds.

For this adventure, composer and double bassist Hinse Mutter has proposed that his trio, Ensemble Ratel, compose new pieces on the spot, with audience members participating as co-creators. You'll have the opportunity to influence the creative process and help shape these new compositions yourself.

The evening concludes with a set of instant compositions and existing works by the collective Fishes, Swords & Trombones. For this edition, the ensemble consists of Thomas Myrmel (trombone), Jonathan Nagel (double bass), and Omer Sigler (guitar).

Ensemble Ratel
Hans Sampath Blok is a Dutch-Norwegian composer and musician, born in Sri Lanka and adopted in the Netherlands. Through his versatile creativity, he draws inspiration from the underlying emotions and needs that either connect people or drive them apart. Hans plays all brass instruments and is primarily active in early music and free improvisation.

Kees van der Heijdt is a flautist, teacher, arranger, improviser, and composer. Growing up in a musical family, it was only natural that he would make music himself. His enthusiasm quickly became a lifelong passion. Kees completed both a classical flute degree and a Master's degree in jazz flute at the Utrecht Conservatory. There he developed as an improviser and explored new crossover possibilities, focusing on subtle musical details. Kees performs as a flautist and piccolo player with Het Zeeuws Orkest and appears in numerous independent music projects. He is also active as a music educator, teaching flute, recorder, general music education, and ensembles, ranging from individual lessons to entire school classes.

Hinse Mutter studied classical double bass in Rotterdam and subsequently interned as a production manager with the Groot Omroepkoor (Netherlands Radio Choir). He has performed with ensembles including the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, Het Zeeuws Orkest, and the Metropole Orchestra. As a producer, he has worked with the Netherlands Chamber Choir, LUDWIG, and De Waalse Kerk. As a composer, dozens of his compositions and arrangements have been performed by orchestras and ensembles. His sheet music is published by Alry Publishing. Hinse performs on an instrument made available to him by the Musical Instruments Fund Foundation.
